Ex-Morris County Sheriff's Officer Rejects Plea Deal for Arson Charges

Jason Campbell, a former volunteer firefighter, will face trial for a slew of offenses.

Jason Campbell, a former Parsippany volunteer firefighter and ex-Morris County Sheriff’s officer, has rejected a plea deal that would keep him behind bars for two more years.

According to nj.com, the deal was rejected last week in court, and Campbell will proceed with a suppression motion and eventually go to trial.

Campbell was first arrested in 2011 for allegedly setting fires in 2008 and 2010 in Parsippany as an active member of the fire department. He was also accused of having one of the youth members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program – which Campbell supervised – help him ignite the blazes.

Campbell was later charged with child neglect after police allegedly found him drunk and arguing with his wife inside a car when their infant was present. He was also found to have three tablets of prescription painkiller oxycodone, and showed the investigating officer his sheriff’s badge, despite having it suspended.
