Car Break-ins Under Investigation in Pine Brook

Police said man was seen jumping out of car he allegedly broke into.

Montville Township police are investigating a pair of apparent car break-ins in the Maple Avenue section of Pine Brook.

According to police, both incidents occurred on the same day in the parking lots of businesses less than a quarter of a mile away from each other.

Police said on Sept. 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., a woman reported her car was broken into in the parking lot of 34 Maple Avenue while she was at work. When police arrived on the scene, they said they determined her car to have been entered, but nothing of value was taken.

At about 12:20 p.m. that day, in the parking lot of 10 Maple Ave., police said a man was walking out of the business when he saw a man in the passenger seat of his vehicle.

Police said as he approached the car, the man allegedly jumped out of the car and into a white Lexus which then drove away. The Lexus proceeded toward Route 80 and police were unable to locate the vehicle.

No items were reported stolen from the vehicle and police said they believe the alleged attempted burglary was interrupted when the man approached his car. No damage was done to the vehicle, police said.
