Alleged Armed Robbery Ends With One Dead In Pine Brook

One of the suspects was declared dead on the scene after a motorcycle accident near a Pine Brook florist.

A police pursuit after an alleged armed robbery in Pine Brook this morning, Sept. 9, resulted in one suspect dead, according to a statement from the Morris County Prosecutor's office.

According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi, Montville Township police responded to a 911 call at 1:40 a.m. from an employee at the 7-11 on Changebridge Road, reporting an armed robbery. Police arrived on the scene and encountered a motorcycle leaving the area of the robbery, occupied by two individuals.

"The responding officer activated his overhead emergency lights. The motor cycle operator is alleged to have increased speed and ultimately lost control of the motorcycle on Changebridge Road while navigating a turn," Bianchi said in a press statement.

The passenger was ejected from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bianchi's statement. According to reports, the accident took place near Petals of Pine Brook florist on Changebridge Road.

"The investigation is on-going and additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available," Bianchi said.

Capt. Edward Rosellini of the Montville Police department commended his officers in their handling of the situation.

"They did everything they were supposed to do," he said.

Representatives from the 7-11 were unavailable for comment.

According to Bianchi, The Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime Unit, Vehicular Homicide Unit along with the Montville Township Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section are currently investigating the incident.

Police have not yet released the name of either person on the motorcycle—the deceased passenger or the driver. They have also not yet released the name of the officer involved in the incident.
