Montville High Club Walks for Babies

Sunday, April 27, the International Concerns Club [ICC] of Montville Township High School [MTHS] will walk in the March for Babies Walkathon, organized by the March of Dimes. The 2014 event, at Farleigh Dickenson University in Madison, NJ, will mark the twentieth consecutive year of participation for Montville’s ICC. Twenty-nine MTHS students will join ICC advisor, Scott Riotto, and his dog, for the walk.

“The WALK,” as it is referred to by Riotto, who is also a social studies teacher at MTHS, begins at 8:00 am, and follows a three mile course. The ICC will participate as “Team: Montville Township High School-M766.” Each member of the team has set an individual fundraising goal and is registered at the March for Babies website.

"Every day, thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick," said many of the team's participants on their team registration pages.

Participant goals range from $5 to $1000. Secure donations can be made on the website by anyone who would like to support ICC’s “Team: Montville Township High School-M766.”

The mission of the March of Dimes is to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Funds raised by the ICC on April 27 will support a variety of initiatives, including:

·        Supporting important research offering preventions and solutions for babies born too soon or with birth defects.

·        Educating women on things they can do to increase their chances of having a healthy baby.

·        Providing comfort and information to families with a newborn in intensive care.

·        Pushing for newborn screening and health insurance for all pregnant women and children.
