Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Key Montville School Figures

Four of the eight award recipients have played an integral role in school district.

The Montville Township Chamber of Commerce held its 2013 Awards Banquet on Saturday March 8. Four of this year’s eight recipients have worked closely for many years with the Montville Township Public Schools.

Current Montville Township Board of Education Member, Charles Grau, received the Montville Township Chamber of Commerce Silver Service Award.

Grau, who received the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year Award in 1986, has served several terms on the Montville Township Board of Education.

New Board Member, Michael F. O’Brien received the Chamber’s Public Service Award.

O’Brien was one of the first educators to serve the district when Montville Township High School [MTHS] was built. The passionate social studies teacher recently retired from MTHS after assisting in the education of thousands of Montville’s students. 2014 marks his first year as a Board of Education member.

Former Board Member, Thomas Mazzaccaro was awarded the President’s Award, along with Joseph Quade.

Quade, a WWII veteran, is active in VFW Post 5481. Many Montville students participate annually in VFW essay contests and living history presentations provided by Post 5481. Quade also served as a coach and substitute teacher in the Montville Township school district for many years. He was a recipient of the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year Award in 1982 and the Silver Service Award in 1994.

Mazzaccaro received a Chamber Citizen of the Year Award in 1985, and the Silver Service Award in 1996. He has served several terms on the Montville Township Board of Education and recently completed an interim term through December 2013.

The Montville Township Chamber of Commerce’s 51st Annual Banquet and Awards Program was held at the Knoll Country Club in Parsippany. Other recipients included Christopher Bruno, Business of the Year; Ronald Soussa, Citizen of the Year; Richard Cook, Chief of Police, Public Safety Award; and the RAR Corporation received the Beautification Award.
