Montville BOE President Named Master Board Member

Dr. Karen Cortellino receives NJ School Board Association certification.

The New Jersey School Board Association [NJSBA] Master Board Member Certification was awarded to Montville Township Board of Education [BOE] President, Dr. Karen Cortellino, at the Morris County School Board Association’s [MCSBA] April 30 meeting. Only five School Board Members throughout Morris County achieved this status.

"Karen does a great job," said Superintendent, Dr. Paul Fried recently. "She takes the role of Board Member very seriously, and always tries to improve her skills and leadership."

NJSBA offers a variety of certification programs for board members throughout the state who wish to take their training to a higher level. Master Board Member Status is awarded to Members who have participated in further education. Candidates must have completed and achieved requirements for Certificated Board Member before embarking on the requirements to be awarded Master Board Member status.

The additional training, through the NJSBA Board Member Academy, provides a firm foundation in the essential governance skills needed to carry out the responsibilities of being a School Board Member in New Jersey.
