Montville Township has had quite a year, hasn't it?

We're just weeks away from turning the page on 2013, a year in which we saw great accomplishments and, sadly, lost loved neighbors.

So, we're asking you, our readers, to nominate a "Person of the Year" for 2013.

We're not limiting nominations to single persons, however. Maybe it's a group of volunteers who helped the township. Maybe it's a business that made a difference in the community too big to ignore.

Or, maybe you want to honor someone posthumously, such as the beloved Carol Geers, who lost her fight to breast cancer, or Sheree Monetti, who lost her fight to lung cancer.

Consider the nomination period open right now. Post your thoughts in the comments section below. We won't have a vote-off unless it's too close to call, so the total number of nominations for a person, group or business on this thread will be our honoree.

We look forward to your nominations and, as always, thanks for your participation.

My nomination for Montville's Person of the Year is Jim Berry. Jim has served as a volunteer firefighter with the Montville Fire Department for 50 years. Jim's service has included being a lieutenant, captain and Chief of the fire department as well as serving on many committees. Jim is still very active working within the fire department as a volunteer as well as using his expertise and knowledge in training newer members of the fire department. He has provided thousands of hours of service to the township residents keeping them safe and still responds to calls when needed as well as serving on numerous committees. I hope that you will cast your vote for Jim Berry of the Montville Fire Department for his dedication to the residents of Montville!

I 2nd the nomination for Anthony Sia!!! I have the pleasure of working at MTHS and seeing first hand how much this man not only loves his job but loves those children as if everyone of them were his own. He is such a dedicated and talented man.

I 5t the nomination. I've never seen dedication and passion in a teacher until Mr Sia. The MHS School of Rock put on a tremendous show 2 weeks ago. Kudos to School of Rock band! 🎶

I nominate Mr. Anthony Sia for dedicating hours and hours to students, and also advising the most underrated club in Montville Township, possibly Morris County!

I 2nd the nomination for Jim Berry he has served 50 years as a volunteer firefighter putting his life on the line to save others giving most of his time to ensure our town and people where safe. He never blinked an eye to drop whatever he was doing to run when any call came in. He and all our volunteers deserve to be recognized and honored for all they do for our community.

Mr. Sia totally deserves this. I always feel safe when I'm in his room during School of Rock and lunch. He makes everyone feel welcomed and comfortable!

I am honored to nominate Joe Quade for Person of the Year - as most of us are aware, Joe has been given France's highest honor for his service in WWII - but his service to the town is legendary - name a committee and Joe has served with his time and expertise - VFW, MTHS Hall of Fame, Citizen of the Year, Living Treasure of Morris County-- his resume is limitless - but so is his love for the community and family we call Montville Township.
