MTHS Names Five Students at ShopRite Stars

Each marking period, students will be honored in one of five categories: Academics, Athletics, the Arts, Leadership, Community Service.

ShopRite Stars is a distinction given to students once each marking period.

With Friday being the end of the first marking period, Montville High School Assistant Principal Ken Nadzak presented the awards at the last school board meeting: 

  • Academics - Claire Kim
  • Athletics - Kirstin Godau
  • The Arts - Jenay Crispyn
  • Leadership - Jacob Fleisig
  • Community Service - Paul Romeo
Kim, Crispyn and Romeo were on hand to receive their certificates at the board meeting.

Here's a look at why each person was nominated:

Kim was nominated by two teachers for her hard work in her AP classes. She was also named a Semi-Finalist in the Siemens Competition for Math, Science, and Technology. Of the 2,440 students registered in the competition, she was chosen to represent the top 300.

Godau was nominated by Athletic Director Paul Pignatello for her part in the success of the girls tennis team. This year, the girls tennis team made Mustang history by making it to the Tournament of Champions, the farthest any Montville sport has ever been.

Crispyn was nominated for her work in the arts, having taken classes at two art and design schools: Parsons and Pratt Institute.

Fleisig was nominated for helping to raise thousands of dollars for the PTC and the MEF.

Romeo was nominated for his Eagle Scout Project, his volunteer work in the Montville First Aid Squad and the Children’s Hospital ER.
