MTHS Forensics Ranked Top 1% in National League

This puts them in a 'coveted' and prestigious society.

Guided by teacher Mary Gormley, the Montville Township High School Forensics team had recently made a name for themselves.

The team hosted a competition at MTHS on Saturday, Nov. 9 and placed second overall and then on Saturday, Nov. 16, they traveled to Manville for the NJFL Tournament and placed first place with 81 points beating out 11 other teams.

Also, the National Forensic League recognized the Mustangs for reaching over 300 degrees, placing them within the top 1 percent of the league. This ranking earned them a spot in the league's prestigious Societe' De 300. Students earned points and degrees based on competition and achievements.

“That society of 300 is a very special thing, it’s coveted,” said Board member Matthew Kayne. “Mrs. Gormley has been the head of the forensics team for many years. I don’t recall this happen previously. Mrs. Gormley has done a remarkable job and has prepared so many students, not just for forensics, but for life in the program that she runs.”

The Montville Forensic Team is a competitive public speaking organization that includes debate and theatrical performances, according to the high school. The club fosters all aspects of written and oral communication and functions as both a team and a club. Team members compete at New Jersey high schools, colleges, universities, and National conventions throughout the United States.
