Pathways' Mentor Training

Pathways for Exceptional Children is having a mentor training on April 28, 2014 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the municipal building located at 195 Changebridge Rd. in Montville. The mentor training is for children in 3rd grade and above. The training teaches children about different disabilities and how to befriend and include children that may have cognitive, social, and/or physical disabilities. The training is fun and very interactive. It includes stations where children can feel what is like to have a disability and develop an empathy for people with differences. After the mentor training the children are certified to volunteer as a mentor for our many exciting programs which include a variety of sports, reading, photography, filmmaking, disc jockey, rock band and more. Mentors for Pathways earn community service hours and at the same time make a difference helping to add value to other children. You can register for the mentor training on our website at www.PathwaysKids.or under the mentoring navigation bar.

Pathways is also looking for job coaches who are youth 16 years and above to work in our Project Win Win employment program. This program trains children with special needs for employment and is a paid position. This employment opportunity is great for high school students looking to go into teaching or other people helping professions. As a job coach you will help develop and teach programs in our new state of the art studio located in Boonton, New Jersey. You may also go off site to an employment opportunity in a business and assist to train children in employment settings. If you are interested in being a job coach email mjennis@PathwaysKids.org for more information about this great opportunity.
