A Montville Kiwanis plaque at the site says Seceder Cemetery was established Oct. 8, 1827, by True Reformed Dutch Church at Montville. The church was formed in 1824, and ceased operation in 1930, according the monument. The church split from the First Reformed Dutch Church and was known as the Seceder Church, according to Ancestry.com.
