Trick-or-Treating Canceled in Montville

Mayor said streets are unsafe and street lights may not be on.

Trick-or-treating will not be happening in Montville on Halloween Day this year as the mayor has said it has been canceled until further notice.

"It's not safe with tree-limbs hanging," Mayor Tim Braden said.

Trick-or-treating was canceled in the township as 95 percent of residents were without power on Tuesday following Tropical Storm Sandy making landfall in New Jersey Monday night.

Braden said street lamps may not have power restored by Wednesday evening and conditions are not safe enough for people to go out. A new date for trick-or-treating will be established at a later time.

Patch will have updates on this story.
