Spending Caps, Bear Hunts, Bees, and a Century of Fire-Fighting: The Week in Review

A rundown of some of last week's stories.

In case you missed it, here's a rundown of some of the stories Montville Patch covered this week.

Governor Chris Christie signed off on a bill that would impose a two percent cap on property taxes and municipality spending increases. Both mayor Jim Sandham and superintendent Dr. Paul Fried weighed in on how this cap could affect the township.

The state Fish and Game council voted unanimously in favor to implement measures for black bear population control, including a proposed six-day bear hunt. The area for the hunt would include sections of the township. Representatives from animal control said black bears have never been a serious problem for the municipality.

The board of education debated the merits of adding a third first-grade section to Cedar Hill elementary school for the coming school year. While parents at the board meeting were in favor of adding the section, the board chose to hold off until August 1 before making any decisions.

The Montville fire department geared up to celebrate its 100-year anniversary with a picnic and open house. The festivities took place on Saturday, July 17.
