Residents Flock to Library for Power During Outages

JCP&L estimated more than 1,700 customers were without power in the township Monday night.

The was filled with patrons seeking electricity on Monday as the library opened in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.

Outages left more than a thousand customers in town without power on Monday, and some of them flocked to the Horseneck Road facility, library director Allan M. Kleiman said.

Carloads of people, many with their laptops, unloaded there throughout the day, with 80 to 100 people using the library at various points.

"People are packing in here," he said. The building opened at 1 p.m. and planned on closing at 9 p.m.

A JCP&L estimate around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday showed 894 Montville customers, 631 Towaco customers and 221 Pine Brook customers without power—among more than 48,000 customers without power throughout Morris County.
