Pet Safety Options During Sandy Aftermath

Places to go for pet needs and sheltering.

Finding a warm place to sleep with power can be difficult with the majority of Montville still in the dark. Finding that while being able to still care for your pet may seem even more challenging.

But Montville Township has taken pets into consideration and has opened a shelter that does allow residents to bring their animals as well. The shelter is set up at the Cedar Hill Elementary School. The animals will be sheltered in a separate room from people, because of allergic residents, but will be able to stay overnight if there is a need.

If your pet runs out of food or other supplies, Metro Pet Supply is open and running on a generator, according to Owner Frank Cooney. The store will remain open until the generator runs out of gas, but is only able to do cash sales.

Some nearby veterinarians are open and have power. The Butler Veterinary Hospital, at 417 Main Street in Butler, is open and taking patients.

How have your pets been dealing with the loss of power? Are they stir-crazy or do they not seem to mind at all? Tell us in the comments.
