NJDOT Announces Ramp Closure on Route 46 Westbound in Montville

Lane closures will be confined to overnight hours.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced Wednesday an upcoming series of ramp closures along Route 46 westbound, which will include Montville Township.

The closure will result from a major resurfacing and roadway repair project taking place in Montville, as well as Parsippany and Fairfield.

According to a release from NJDOT, its contractor Tilcon Inc., was scheduled to close the Route 46 westbound ramp to Fairfield Road Connector on Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday morning. During the ramp closures, motorists will continue to Hollywood Avenue southbound to Fairfield Road.

The Route 46 westbound ramp to Gately Overpass and Fairfield Road will be closed Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday morning. Motorists will continue to Madison Road to Plymouth Street to Route 46 eastbound to Fairfield Road.

The release also said the Interstate 80 westbound ramp to Route 46 westbound will be closed Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday morning.  Motorists destined for Route 46 westbound will be directed to the prior exit for Hook Mountain Road.

The release said all work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled for rain.

NJDOT said the $4.4 million project began construction in early March and will mill and repave asphalt sections of the roadway and repair the concrete subsurface on Route 46 westbound at different sections of the highway, between milepost 46.4, just east of Interstate 287, and milepost 55, at Two Bridges Road.

According to the release, resurfacing operations are requiring overnight single-lane closures and NJDOT is confining the repaving work to overnight hours to minimize the impact to motorists. All Route 46 westbound travel lanes and ramps will be maintained during daytime hours, with periodic shoulder closures for curb repair work, the release said.
