Learn All About the Capsticks

The Montville Township Historical Society has scheduled a program about industry in the township in the 19th Century. The wealthy Capstick family played a key role.

"The Capsticks—Montville Industry in the 19th Century" is the subject at the next Montville Township Historic Society program, for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in the , 356 Main Road, Montville.

In the late 19th century, the industrial revolution reached Montville in the form of a rubber factory that later became the Capstick Print Works. This became a major industrial site in Montville Township employing hundreds.

The weathly Capstick family supported the area and was very involved in local and state government, politics and cultural affairs. Many buildings in the area were built by the Capsticks.

The print works industry—which the Capstick family built, owned and operated—printed, dyed, steamed and finished woolens, flannels and satinets. Other businesses they leased to various operators. They also began other businesses that supported their core business or was a byproduct of their basic business.

Come learn about the family, its growth, business and impact on the local area.  We will also explore the stories which have grown up about the Capsticks, which demonstrate their major impact on the area. All are invited to attend.
