Comic Books, Comedy and Cosby This Weekend

A weekly list of ways to get out.

This week's list of ways to get out, with or without the kids, is pretty loaded: There will be art gallery openings, a fun fair, garage sales, plenty of music, comedy, theater and more. 

Whether you want to get your car washed or go to a craft fair, there is probably something for you or your family in the list below:

Where/When: From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at  in Madison.
Why Go: In celebration of , Gary’s Wine & Marketplace will hold a free Great Wines of France wine tasting featuring a repertoire of France’s finest summer rosés, reds and whites.  During the tasting, each location will hold a raffle to win a pair of tickets to The Misanthrope, which begins performances on June 1 and continues through June 26 at The Shakespeare Theatre’s F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre in Madison.

Where/When: From 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at  in Madison.
Why Go: Joe Kubert, whose remarkable career ranks him among the all-time comic book greats, will be appearing for a rare in-store appearance on Saturday, June 4, from 1 to 3 pm.  Kubert will be meeting fans and autographing copies of his entire body of work, including recent additions to DC Comics’ Joe Kubert Library: "Jew Gangster," "Yossel: April 19, 1943," and "Dong Xoal, Vietnam 1965."

Why Go: Comedy icon Bill Cosby dazzles fans young and old with humor that transcends age, gender and cultural barriers.

Where/When: At 8 p.m. on Saturday at  in Chatham.
Why Go: Because the 2010/11 season was such a hit, The Sanctuary Concerts is celebrating its loyal audience with an ice cream social, followed by a show by Columbia Records artists The Burns Sisters at 9 p.m.
Pricing: $10

Where/When: At 8 p.m. on Saturday at The Black River Playhouse, at Grove St. and Maple Ave. in Chester.
Why Go: After last year’s comedy night was a sold out hit, The Black River Playhouse in Chester is hosting its second annual comedy night as a fundraiser for the Chester Theatre Group. The night will feature comedians Katherine Brower, Dan Hoffman, Fred Holzapfel, Julie McCormick, Karen Muha, Peggy Robinson and Phil Sweet.
Pricing: $15 donation.

Where/When: At 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the  in Morris Township.
Why Go: Because there will be a concert and dancing with LaBamba and The Hubcaps, one of New Jersey's most successful and well-known bar bands. The opening act will be Philadelphia acapella group Quiet Storm. 
Pricing: $45.

Where/When: From 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at  in Pine Brook.
Why Go: Because there will be inflatables, carnival games, food, hair painting and much more.

Where/When: On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the  in Parsippany.
Why Go: Because it’s a massive garage sale with more than 35 homes participating.
Pricing: How much do you want to spend?

Where/When: On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lake Shore Drive and Dorothy Road in Parsippany.
Why Go: It’s a family day filled with music, boat rides, challenge races, swimming and a chance to see local firemen, rescue squads, and police officers with their various trucks and equipment. There is will also be good food and drinks available, along with a used book sale, scrapbooking demonstrations, free balloons and face painting for the young and the young at heart. Bring a non-perishable food item for the Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry and receive a free firecracker ice pop.
Pricing: Entry is free, but it really depends on how much money you would like to spend on all of the goodies.

Why Go: Because it’s a day of food, fun, games, prizes, music and more.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: On Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at  in Parsippany.
Why Go: To get your car washed for a good cause!
Pricing: $5.

Where/When: On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at .
Why Go: Because people are teaming up to send a truckload of relied supplies to the communities in Tuscaloosa that were devastated by the tornadoes last month. Non-perishable foods, water, cleaning supplies, paper products, tarps to cover roofs, school supplies, pet supplies and food, plastic storage containers, pots and pans, gently used children and teen clothing, among other things, are needed.

Where/When: From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at 85 Cascade Way in Butler.
Why Go: Because it’s a flea market and everyone likes a flea market.
Pricing: How big is your wallet?

Where/When: From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at 180 Boonton Ave in Butler.
Why Go: Because the owners are moving to a smaller house and must sell everything. Items for sale include toy, crafts, patio furniture and many other household items.
Pricing: How big is your wallet?

Where/When: At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the .
Why Go: To enjoy an evening discussing Tom Franklin’s “Crooked letter, crooked letter” with some like-minded adults. Newcomers are welcome.
Pricing: Free

Where/When: From 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday at  in Butler.
Why Go: To stop by and play at the open mic night, or just to stop by and enjoy listening to live music.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: At 2 p.m.  on Saturday and Sunday at  in Madison.
Why Go: To enjoy a night out in Madison experiencing Molière’s comedic masterpiece about the hypocrisy of polite society. 
Pricing: $32 to $55.

Where/When: From 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the  in Morristown.
Why Go: To check out a new series of drawings by Harding artist Peter Allen for the gallery’s new inaugural artist exhibition program. Allen will celebrate his exhibit with an artist reception on Sunday that is open to the public.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: At 6:15 p.m. on Thursday at  in Morristown.
Why Go: You can see The Illusionist, a French animated film directed by Sylvain Chomet.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: From 10 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on Friday at  in Morristown.
Why Go: Come see Morristown’s own Brian Leopold, a one-man band who will play your favorite songs from bands like The Beatles, Billy Joel, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers and more.

Why Go: To hear the mayor call your number and win great prizes.  Proceeds benefit the Basking Ridge Rescue Squad.
Pricing: $20 each for 20 bingo games.

When/Where: 1 p.m, Sunday, June 5 at  in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To view, purchase, or discuss beautifully framed professional art, all in affordable price ranges.
Pricing: $10 admission.

When/Where: Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Chester's Main Street.
Why Go: To find unique gifts and a little something for yourself in the quaint setting of a historic town.
Pricing: $3 per person admission.

GRAB & GO KIDS' PLANNER

Where/When: At 2 p.m. on Saturday at  in Chatham.
Why Go: Children ages 6 and older can dig into the pond and learn about what lives there. It’s suggested to wear clothing that can get muddy or wet.
Pricing: $5.

Where/When: From 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at  in Morristown.
Why Go: Children ages 7 to 11 will get the chance to learn the basic skills of archeology and unearth some treasures of their own.
Pricing: $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for children.

Where/When: At 2 p.m. on Sunday at  in Chatham.
Why Go: Children ages 10 and older will learn about aquatic invertebrates with a naturalist.
Pricing: $5.
