Big Checks And Athletic Dominance: The Week in Review

A breakdown of what Montville Patch reported on from Sept.13 to 19.

In case you missed anything, here is a rundown of some of the stories covered on Montville Patch in the past week.

Democratic and Republican candidates for state, local and county offices did some campaigning in the area. Democratic township committee candidates Mike O'Brien and Truscha Quatrone spoke alongside Democratic freeholder and House of Representative candidates at the Senior House, while Republican candidate for the house Roland Straten appeared at the township's second-ever tea party meeting.

As part of a grant from the Morris County open space fund, the township received a check for over $2 million dollars to help pay for the acquisition of the Starkey property on Millers Lane.

The township committee voted to set aside $500,000 to fund a county-mandated revaluation of all commercial and residential property, set to take place sometime next year. The revaluation will determine what area property owners pay in taxes for the next 10 to 12 years, according to township administrator Frank Bastone.

The library returned over, one of the first townships in the state to take advantage of such a program.

In Sports, the football team beat Vernon Township thanks to a late-game two-point conversion. Volleyball got its first win of the season against Morris Hills. The field hockey team prevailed over Vernon and a rainstorm halted the boys soccer team from continuing its 6-1 route over Vernon.
