From the Sidelines, Is a Garbage Transfer Station coming back to River Rd ?

Not too long ago, The Montville Township Committee spent a good deal of money to clean up two problems on River Rd. The first was to remove a decades old Garbage Collection operation from a two lane feeder road (River Rd.) that fed into the main cross road for the Township (Change Bridge Rd). Part 2 of the project was to clean up the area of the old Municipal Building and the old public works garage behind it by moving it to the Garbage Transfer location and improving the building, which needed extensive work, along with extensive clean up on the property. This Township spent good money to accomplish this and it was accomplished. The property owner was paid good money for the land and building and moved their operation elsewhere and the Township renovated the building on the site for Public Works. It ended decade’s long problems with the Garbage Hauling operation and took it out of Montville Township. It cleaned up the old Public Works area and modernized the facility.

Now ten years later under a Township Committee and Planning Board without either, an institutional memory of what was accomplished or any reasonable vision, the trucks are coming back. Who knows what else is coming with them. This Township Committee has been rudderless for years now. The Planning Board and Board of Adjustment have overturned years of valuable planning. Buildings are being approved that fit only the view of the developers who are building them. Those buildings will have no effect on reducing taxes as a ratable but will affect the quality of life in Montville Township for way into the future.
