Cupcake Sale to Help Hurricane Victims

Desserts designed by a Lazar Middle School seventh-grader are on sale at Montville Bagels.

Cupcakes designed by seventh-grader Jake Sauertig are being sold at to raise money for local Hurricane Irene victims. The cupcakes are on sale through Thursday, Oct. 6.

Jake learned to design and create cakes after being inspired by cake-decorating TV shows. He wanted to use his talents to help local people affected by the storm, his mom, Pam Lipkin-Sauertig, said. They reached out to Montville Bagels through a family friend and Jake teamed up with the shop's baker to create the dessert.

For every $3 cupcake sold, $2 is donated. A specific charity hasn't yet been picked.
