James Gandolfini once stopped by Bella Pizza during a day of filming for "The Sopranos" and a newspaper photo of him sitting in the Italian restaurant is still taped in front of the register.
The pizzeria on Main Road in the Towaco section of Montville Township has been around more than eight years and offers a full range of pizzas, calzones, wraps, cheesesteaks, salads, chicken wings and pasta—plus free coffee with your order.
"Because our pizzas are made from authentic Italian recipes with the finest, freshest ingredients, including cheese, spices and dough made fresh daily with the highest standards, our customers keep coming back," Bella says on its website.
Each week, Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. This week's choice:
440 Main Road (Route 202), Towaco
10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday
12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday
Bella offers catering and delivery, but we wanted the dine-in experience. There was plenty of seating and soccer on TV. I tried the buffalo chicken wrap for about $7. It had grilled chicken, hot sauce and bleu cheese. I also tried the free coffee.
A couple things: Maybe it's just me, but I'm used to breaded chicken on buffalo wraps and didn't see on the menu the chicken was grilled (it's spelled out clearly, I just didn't read it). This turned out to be a delightful twist of fate. The grilled chicken was hot, satisfying and tasted great, and I assume it's healthier that way.
And I loved the sauce. It had a good amount of flavor and heat.
The coffee was good, too.
