An attempted break-in took place at the Number 1 Wok in Pine Brook on August 25. According to police, the incident took place around 5 a.m. No money was taken from the scene, though the front door of the building was damaged. Dominic Delplato, owner of the Donut Dugout next door, saw two individuals leaving the store's area when he arrived for work that morning.

Montville police apprehended three individuals suspected in a purse snatching that took place in Pine Brook on August 27 after a foot pursuit into Fairfield.

Montville Board of Education President Dr. Karen Cortellino said she was "disappointed" by New Jersey's failure to place in the top ten for federal "Race to the Top" funding, but pledged that the board would "do they best they can" with it's current budget.
