Marching Mustangs Prep New Show at Band 'Boot Camp'

Montville Township will host Mustang Fall Classic on new turf field in October.

Marching band "boot camp" started last week and continues this week as Montville Township High School's award-winning band learns this year's show, “In The Face Of Adversity."

Under the leadership of director Miguel Bolivar and drum major Shannon Szeto, the band practices on the new synthetic turf football field, said Claudia Lemmerz, recording secretary for the Montville Marching Band Booster Association.

There are 58 members of the marching band and eight members of the color guard. The band welcomed 18 freshmen.

Jim Bogert, Joe Bergen, Dave Caravella and Edward Gargiulo work with the students in smaller groups and also assist on the field. Regina Boriello is preparing the color guard.

The band, which placed fifth in nationals and third in the state competition last year, is excited for the season, Lemmerz said. The band will participate in seven competitions this season, including the NJ State Competition and the National Competition in November at Met Life Stadium.

Montville also hosts its own annual marching band competition, the Mustang Fall Classic, which brings 15 New Jersey marching bands to compete at Montville Township High School. The event is scheduled for Oct. 26.
