School's starting up on Sept. 9 so the countdown begins for those who have procrastinated. Montville schools have a list of required summer assignments in certain courses.
For some of the subjects, such as history, math and science, there are required summer assignments that includes textbook readings and essays. In some classes there will be a test on summer assignments within the first week of school.
For the summer reading, students need to read the required books and be ready to discuss and participate in various group and individual writing activities when they return to school, said the district.
Titles include classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird, Catcher in the Rye and the Great Gatsby. There are also more recent titles such as The Help, Life of Pi and Tinkers.
