Senior House Gets Loud At Kiwanis Benefit Concert (With Photos and Video)

Boonton band closes the recreation department's summer concert series.

The Montville Township recreation department wrapped up its summer concert series on Aug.12 with a performance by Boonton-based rock bank Northern Comfort.

The concert, which doubled as a benefit for the Montville Kiwanis club food bank, was held in the senior house, moved from the community park due to rain.

"It's a shame, all summer we have barely any rain, and tonight we have to move this inside," said recreation director Maryann Willy. "This would have been a good one to have outside, we could have really turned the volume up.

The six-piece rock band played a number of familiar classic rock songs, with a focus on southern-associated bands like Lynard Skynard and the Allman Brothers.

"We try to stick to the old favorites," said Northern Comfort guitarist Glenn Hartmann. "Southern rock seems to be something people can relate to and enjoy."

According to Hartmann, the three-year-old rock band has played several benefits over the course of its existence, as well as in many bars in the Northern New Jersey area.

"Pretty much, we play anywhere we're invited," he said.

More than 30 residents from the area attended the show. Check the video for a medley of songs from the band, including songs by the Marshall Tucker Band and John Mellencamp.
