A Pair of Poets

Each was selected by her school to compete for a chance at the State Finals.

Montville Patch Whiz Kids of the Week: Sophia Laurenzi and Daniela Mallack

  • Age: 16 and 17 respectively
  • Organizations: Montville Township High School, sophomore, and Trinity Christian School, junior, respectively
  • Accomplishments: Both students competed within their respective schools to represent that school at the National Endowment for the Arts’ Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest’s Region 4 Finals. The competition was held at the Mayo Center for Performing Arts. Laurenzi was one of two competitors chosen to advance to the New Jersey State finals. If she wins there, on March 17, she will be awarded $200 and an all expenses paid trip for two to Washington D.C. where she will compete in the National Finals.
  • Key To Awesomeness: Both students love poetry and the Poetry Out Loud recitation contest. Additionally both want to help people. Laurenzi plans to be a psychologist and Mallack wants to attend medical school.
