Towaco Gazebo Project Completed

Eagle Scout designed, organized landscaping.

Over the past two years, the Towaco Civic Association (TCA) has been selling engraved bricks to raise funds for a picnic Gazebo at Camp Dawson Park on Jacksonville Road.

The 16' x 24' gazebo was erected last spring. The group needed help with the final phase of the project, laying two brick patios and landscaping. At the same time, Towaco resident Paul Romeo, from Troop 74 Montville, was looking for an Eagle Scout Project. He consulted with the TCA members to design the landscaping areas, selected plants, organized deliveries of supplies and negotiated with vendors.

Rob Deboer, of Peace Valley Landscaping, located in Towaco, agreed to oversee the project. Deboer also installed a 100' handicap accessible brick path that leads from the parking area to the gazebo.

Last Saturday, under Deboer's direction and with the help of 22 of Romeo's fellow scouts and friends, the project was completed.

The gazebo is a gift to the residents of Montville Township from the Towaco Civic Association. The gazebo can be reserved for special events through the Montville Recreation Department. The TCA would like to thank Rob Deboer and his crew, Romeo and all the boys and adults who worked so hard on the project and all those who purchased an engraved brick. The TCA is also grateful to the area businesses who donated materials or gave discounts.

A grand opening ribbon cutting celebration is planned for Sunday Oct 21 2 p.m.-4 p.m. All are welcome to attend. For more information, visit the TCA's website here.
