Montville Scouts to Make Bags out of Plarn

They're collecting plastic bags as part of their Silver Award project.

Plarn. Have you heard of it? It’s plastic yarn and two Montville girl scouts plan to use it for a good cause.

Mackensie Aslanian and Kristie Monaco of Troop 501 are killing two birds with one stone. They’re helping the environment and the animals at the Montville Animal Shelter through this project.

“We are two Cadette Girl Scouts from Troop 501 in Montville trying to earn our Silver Award,” they said. “We will turn your bags into Plarn (plastic yarn) that will be crocheted into fashionable bags. The bags are sold at fundraisers and the money is used to help the animals at the shelter.”

Bag donation boxes are at the Montville Animal Shelter on Church Lane and at Montville Town Hall on Changebridge.

The silver award is the second highest level for a girl scout and it’s followed by, of course, the gold award.
