Montville Brush Limitations Expanded for Post-Sandy Collection

Residents can contact Department of Public Works to schedule pickup of large items.

Superstorm Sandy was no ordinary storm and, as such, produced some larger than normal brush items.

Montville Township is making accomodations to help residents dispose of the large items and has agreed to pick them up, with Section 1 scheduled for Monday and Section 2 scheduled on Tuesday.

Typically, brush must be bundled so that each bundle can be handled by just one person, with branches not exceeding 4 inches in diameter, according to township code. Maximum bundle size is ordinarily limited to 2 feet in diameter, 4 feet in length and should not weigh more than 50 lbs.

But with the exceptions the township is making because of the storm, residents will be able to place larger brush items to the curb for collection.

"We ask that you reduce the size of the trees or brush to the greatest extent you are able to accomplish.  The goal should be to have material that one or two individuals, at most, can lift," the township wrote on its website.
