The Montville 12U Travel Baseball Team has been seen around town "canning" for their trip to Cooperstown, NY.

This 12U team has to do some extensive fundraising to cut some of the costs for each one of them to play in the weeklong tournament. However, on Nov. 17, when they were scheduled to do their first "canning" at Shop Rite of Parsippany, they decided to collect their donations for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The team and their coaches were so affected by the devastation Sandy left in our area, that they made the decision to donate all of their collections for that day to the American Red Cross in an effort to help out the families in their community.

On Dec. 3, the 12U Team took a trip to the Red Cross in Fairfield, and presented Jocelyn Gilman with a check for $910. The boys were also treated to a tour of the building where Gilman explained to them and showed them photos of all the work the American Red Cross does.

The boys, their coaches, and their families are very proud of the choice they made to give back to their community.

Good luck in Cooperstown!
