Gazebo Built At Camp Dawson

After four years of planning, Towaco Civic Association saw its gazebo plan come to fruition on Monday.

The Towaco Civic Association is just about done with its project of erecting a gazebo at . Although the gazebo is finished and just about ready for use, there is still another cog in the project.

"The project started four years ago," Christina Renfer, president of the Towaco Civic Association said. "We fundraised starting with a casino night and then Kim Bott took over and committed to build a gazebo and started selling bricks. We fundraised close to $20,000."

To help fund the project, the group is selling personalized bricks which will be spread around the gazebo and in the front to form a walkway. A personal or family brick, with a size of 4" x 8", will be $75; an 8" x 8" personal or family brick will cost $150; and an 8" x 8" business brick will cost $200. Bott said the association hopes to lay the engraved bricks in "the next month or so."

"We also sold tickets to a (comedy) show at  that was donated to this project (to help fundraise)," Renfer said. "And we sold the bricks; we need more people to buy the bricks. We need everybody's support. We want to have it complete."

"About 100 (bricks have been sold so far)," Bott said. "We still want to give people the opportunity to be a part of it. There's a lot of people who use this park for sports and other things, and I'm sure they want to be a part of it."

The gazebo will have many special features, according to Bott, vice president of the Towaco Civic Association.

"It's going to have a clerestory roof where it'll let the light in, it's going to have a decorative railing and a cupola on top. We think it will be nice once the fountains are in the water; it will be a pretty scene for people to come, relax and enjoy," she said.

The group said that once the project is complete there will be a special opening. The exact date is yet-to-be determined, but the association said it is shooting for sometime in the summer.

"We want to do that and invite all the people who bought bricks to come," Bott said. "There'll be music."
