MTHS First Time National Championship Win for Speech & Debate Team

For the first time ever, the Montville High School Speech & Debate Team had a National Championship Winner at the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament in Chicago on May 24.

Montville competes with other New Jersey public schools under the Newark Diocese for NCFL.  Monica Coscia, a Montville senior, took the championship title in Extemporaneous speaking, the largest event of NCFL with 246 competitors in Chicago, IL.

Coscia’s victory is the first CFL national championship for Montville and the first for New Jersey since at least a decade.  Her victory also means that women have won two of the last three CFL national championships.

Danielle Zhang, also a senior, won the National Runner Up in Original Oratory and sophomore Alexandros Pandazis won 6th place in the Declamation category.
