Montville, New Jersey - USA

Montville Township is proud to announce its 11th Annual Arbor Day and Tree City USA 2014 honoree Tom Mazzacaro

Mr. Mazzacaro a longtime Montville resident, worked with Montville Township as the Director of Water and Sewer Department until his retirement in March 2014.

During his tenure with Montville Township he was instrumental in saving a vast amount of Open Space located directly over the township’s main aquifer. This accomplishment will leave a legacy of fresh water for the township’s residents for generations to come.  An experienced water expert he has saved millions of gallons of fresh drinking water for the people of Montville Township.  Each year Tom has been a valuable asset to the Environmental Commission with his knowledge and assistance for more than a decade.

Through his stewardship he was instrumental in developing environmentally friendly water and sewer systems throughout the township that will keep Montville a great place to live and work for years to come.

Tom’s work with the youth of the township has given hundreds of children the knowledge of the science of water and the active environment throughout the town.

Dawson Park in Towaco is the location where the Arbor Day Celebration will take place. A tree will be planted in honor of Mr. Mazzacaro. Dawson Park is one of the areas in the township in which was saved from development and dedicated as Open Space due to the hard work  by Tom Mazzacaro and other in the community concerning the aquifer,  Montville’s prime source of drinking water.

Eagle Scout Mark Romeo has completed  his community project to reflect the importance of the Dawson Park location in Montville Township. At the top of the hill, to the right of the Gazebo area, a sign has been erected to show hikers where the two main rivers flow into the area and provide the township with drinking water in its underground springs or “aquifer”.

The sign will be dedicated and Mr. Tom Mazzacaro will be honored on Saturday April 26th at 1:00pm. The ceremony will take place at the gazebo. A tree will be planted and the ribbon cut to dedicate the sign.

All residents of Morris County are welcome to this event. It is a free event.

Free tree saplings will be distributed to those who attend.

A hike to the top of the hill will be lead by Mark Romeo, a Montville Eagle Scout.

The event will complete Earth Week by celebrating all that is environmentally good in

Montville Township and to honor Tom Mazzacaro as one of the townships  finest residents.
