Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
No doubt township residents have noticed the numerous road construction projects going on in the last few weeks, so when Larry D'Oench emailed me with a construction question, I assumed it would be an easy answer. However, it turns out the mystery of What's Going on With the Old Shell Station on Main Road was a little more involved than I expected. For those who might not know right away (like me, for example), the Shell station Larry is referring to is on Route 202, across the street from the Boonton Walgreens, near the intersection of Myrtle and Vreeland Ave. After a quick drive, I was …
Sometimes, the questions people ask for this column come from a deep desire to know a little more about some nagging part of town that has eluded them. Other times, I just happen to drive my car over a giant lump in the road. The second scenario is what motivated this week's question, posted by me: What is going on with all the roads? Well, OK, not all the roads. However, driving through town this week, I noticed several streets, like Foremost Mountain Road and Shawnee Trail, were stripped of their asphalt and being worked on. After a quick chat with Township Engineer Tony Barile, I now know …
Now we're getting somewhere. Earlier this week, I received several questions about how the Montville Patch message board operates. What is allowed? What isn't? What does it mean to flag someone? Do you monitor the comments? Now, I will admit. This is, by no means, a very sexy question. Still, people are interested in it and I want to promote as much commentary on stories as possible. This is more than a news site, this is a community site, and as such, I want to foster a culture of open opinion. So, with that in mind, here's the most important aspect of the message board: please feel free to …
It's all right, Montville. I understand that people can be shy. Maybe you're just concerned about looking foolish in front of your fellow citizens. Whatever the reason, let me kick off this inaugural "You Ask … Patch Answers" with my own personal question, one that has been echoed around the township committee meetings for a few weeks now: "What's the deal with those purple signs that say 'Strangers? Not in Our Schools?'" Great question, Nate. Usually, figuring out who is responsible for posted signage is pretty easy. Either the sign itself will tell you what it's talking about (like an …
"You Ask … Patch Answers" is a weekly column that will launch next Wednesday for Montville residents looking for solutions to community problems or issues. Everything from pavement to treetops to eye-sores to local mysteries: Why are there different street lights on the bottom of Pine Brook Avenue? Why are there so few sidewalks on Changebridge Road? Why do the lights at Camp Dawson and Community Park get left on for so long? Why? WHY?! WHY?!?! If you've got a question about something in Montville, send it to Editor Nate Adams at nathana@patch.com and our team of intrepid reporters will dig …
