What Would You Like to See at Towaco Crossing?
Economic Development Committee hoping to collect resident input.
The ground has been broken at Towaco Crossing and several developments are already underway, including the 18,000-foot Rails Steakhouse restaurant.
Developers are hoping to attract six retail businesses (in addition to six residential units) at the project site at the Towaco train station. But the township's Economic Development Committee (EDC) is interested in hearing what residents feel should be developed there.
Montville Township Committeeman Jim Sandham, liaison to the EDC, told the committee at the May 22 meeting that the EDC had met with a few developers who inquired about the interests of the residents.
"We entertained and heard from three different developers who are working within the Towaco center area and they're very interested in what type of businesses the residents would be interested in having there," Sandham said.

Let's keep the national chains out and keep the integrity of small town Towaco in place. A privately owned cafe, like The Little Food Cafe in Pompton Plains, would be awesome.

Don't agree with that at all - We have plenty of small town businesses here in Montville... yeah, I could get my coffee at the deli or Landauer Cafe, or Montville Bagel...but it taste like crap. I'll take Starbucks any day.

Actually not a great piece of property and probably shouldn't have been developed this way in the first place. The wrong business will create traffic problems at that intersection others might not be able to succeed without traffic. Way too much crammed on the site.

Thank you Dan! I don't always agree with you but am 100% in agreement on this property.

Even my wife of 43 years doesn't agree with me all the time and when she doesn't I am usually wrong. This property was before the Planning Board some years ago as a 6 retail store developement, without the bar or appartments. When I asked for a traffic study on the access and what it would do to the intersection the application was pulled. Things are somewhat different now. The property is bigger and there is a light at the intersection but this is much bigger in scope. I wonder what the traffic study showed for this application.

Definetly a bakery. Not a limited bakery/bagel etc... but simply a bakery that specializes in pastries, cakes, pies and bread. Something like Calandra's on 46 in Fairfield. Montville township residents enjoy celebrating everything and like to be creative. A coffee house is also a great idea especially for the commuters.
