Development Still Sought for Pine Brook Site

Mixed use zoning ordinance change could attract more developers, township says.

is still working to attract new business to the former G.I. Auto site in Pine Brook.

The township's Economic Development Committee has been working for nearly a year to come up with a way to attract a developer to the site. Last summer, home improvement chain Lowe's was working through the township approval process to place a 137,000-square foot store and garden center on the lot, but after it was announced Lowe's would be closing some existing stores.

Recently, the Montville Township Planning Board has reviewed an amendment to the zoning ordinance for the property and the township committee also introduced an ordinance to support the amendment, according to Township Administrator Victor Canning.

"That's a step in the right direction because that will allow for a mixed use of businesses whereas before, it did not," Canning said.

Canning said the amendment should help to attract new developers to the site.
