Montville Mayor Tim Braden is hoping residents can turn the negative of being without power for nearly two weeks into a positive.
"As we enter the 12th day of Hurricane Sandy's aftermath, I am calling for a day of 'Random Acts of Kindness,'" Braden said.
Acts he suggested included residents with generators running an extension cord to a neighbor's house, checking on elderly couples who live in the area, bringing hot meals to those who are unable to cook and dropping off food to those who do not have any to the Montville Food Pantry.
"They will feel better and so will you. You can make a difference!" Braden said.
Braden said the power company is continuing to work in the township, but that while residents wait, they can help others.
"As JCP&L chips away at the remaining 20 percent of the town without power, those who will be last need your help now more than ever."
He also said the township is putting the pressure on JCP&L to take care of Montville's residents as soon as possible.
"We continue to do everything we can to press JCP&L to get more crews to town and give us accurate information to pass on to the residents," he said.
The Montville Township Commitee will be hosting a special meeting Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the municipal building to discuss storm response with residents.

Those of us partial to sermons may attend church and hear a sermon from a professional preacher. It would seem the mayor's duty is to get the citizens electricity and spare us homilitics.

Hopefully Mr. Braden will recede into the woodwork or enroll in a seminary come the 2013 reorganization and new blood with the time and ability to lead will be selected as mayor.

We were told at this morning's meeting we do not have an "arborist" in town to handle keeping the trees trimmed...how about we offer some specialized training, if needed, to all of our township tree company owners and we can have them work, in conjunction with the town and JCPL, in order to keep the trees off the lines?? That would not only help to stop further problems such as this from happening but also help Montville Township's economy and small business owners.

Thank you to employees of the Town Hall...Especially Theresa, Carmella, and Mark. When I went into the building to get HELP...any HELP....They were so kind and comforting..I cried.
