UPDATE: After hitting a temporary snag, the trade between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos for Tim Tebow has been completed. The snag had to do with which team is responsible for paying $5 million that is owed Tebow, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
In the end, ESPN reported that the Jets have agreed to pay half of the $5 million in compensation back to Denver to finish the trade.
--
Let the Tebowmania begin! The highly-praised but heavily-scrutinized quarterback will be suiting up in green and white next season after being traded Wednesday to the New York Jets for two draft picks.
The announcement Tuesday that former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had officially signed with the Denver Broncos not only made the Broncos an immediate playoff contender, it also meant media darling Tim Tebow was out of a starting job.
No longer the starter, rumors began to fly Tuesday night that Tebow would be traded, with the Jets considered a possible destination.
On Wednesday, FOXSports' Jay Glazer broke the news on Twitter that Tebow had in fact been traded to the New York Jets for a fourth-round pick in this year's draft. It was later noted that the Broncos would also receive a sixth-round pick in the 2012 draft, and that the Broncos would give up a seventh-round selection along with Tebow.
Given that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez just signed a three-year extension to remain the team's signal caller earlier this month, the move initially seemed a bit surprising.
But various media organizations have reported that despite the recent re-signing of Sanchez, the Jets were interested in acquiring Tebow to bump up fan interest and improve team chemistry that suffered last year. Other reports indicate Tebow could be headed for an H-back role if the Jets implement a Wildcat-style offense of the type new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano ran during his days in Miami.
Regardless of his intended role, with the Jets having struggled through a disappointing 8-8 season in 2011 with Sanchez under center and some fans already calling for his ouster, the addition of Tebow to the roster might just initiate a full-blown quarterback controversy if Sanchez starts slowly in the pre-season.
The Jets' other current backup quarterbacks are Drew Stanton and Greg McElroy.
What do you think? Will Tebow fit in with the Jets? Will the publicity he brings help or hurt the team in the long run?

I think Tebow would make a great backup QB, but Mark should still be the main guy.

Wayne's world, a small gentlemen's wager here, it goes without saying that Tim Tebow will be that starting QB for the Jets, Sanchez had his chance. Giving up their draft pick says it all.

I am thinking that Tim Tebow should transition to a Half Back and Back-up QB. He likes to run as it is, and as a former QB there would a lot of options for trick plays.

Makes no sense for him - but of course it's the teams that make the trade. Story was that he wanted to go back to Florida. The Jags would have been a nice fit as it seems they just signed away a receiver from Dallas.

I'm saying this is one of those rare no-brainer moves that won't work. From back-page grabbing, ticket- and jersey-selling, please-oh-please-let-the-best-case-scenario-work-out standpoint, you've got to do it. But the second Sanchez throws two first-half picks, the Tebow chants won't end until he, too, fails.

Hey guys-I hope he plays & that he's the main QB. I read somewhere I think it was the Bleacher Report that they are now trying to trade their 3rd QB Stanton(sic). I also heard from some people commenting on there that they could still possibly trade Sanchez even tho they signed him for a extension, is that possible? I hoped that they got rid of him to begin with but now that we have Tebow we should get to the Super Bowl & win.

UGH!!! This is just as bad as when Rick Hendrick signed Dale Earnhardt Jr. The J E T S don't need Tim Tebow to sell tickets--I believe every one of our home games are sold out even with harsh weather at times. I'm wondering if this is more of a defensive move--if we have him then he won't be playing against us. The deal is done so no sense in complaining about it---at least we don't have to deal with another Manning playing in NJ !!!!! J! E! T! S! JETS!! JETS!! JETS!!

Easy, Sparano is a fellow college and fraternity brother. "give a brother a chance". It is still Rex's world and we are just priviledged to share it with him. And, I'm a JET fan. Maybe they took Tebow for spiritual help. They need all they can get right now.

The wildcat is back for the Jets. Sparano, the new offensive coordinator for the Jets, brought the wildcat to the NFL. The wildcat offensive plays to Tebow's strengths, so he is perfect for that role since Smith was traded to the Bills. Sanchez as the QB, Tebow in the wildcat to mix things up will give any defense something to sweat over.
Patrick Franklin
10:44 pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2012
The wildcat was a fad that the NFL caught up to a year or two ago. The wildcat does not win games, but winning doesn't seem to be what the Jets are worried about.
The Most Interesting Man in the World
7:07 am on Thursday, March 22, 2012
The Jets went to the AFC Championship twice with the wildcat in their arsenal and when they traded Smith to the Bills, they did not make the playoffs. Fad or not, it worked. Tebow is a not a traditional NFL QB, but a playmaker none the less, perfect for this scheme.
Patrick Franklin
9:05 am on Thursday, March 22, 2012
The wildcat is not what got the Jets to the playoffs. The Defense and the run game got them there. Their Offensive line is a joke, Greene was ineffective last year, and they have no pass rush. Tebow will touch the ball 6-10 times a game in the wildcat. This move does not improve their football team at all.
The Most Interesting Man in the World
12:01 pm on Thursday, March 22, 2012
You are right, the wildcat alone does not get them there, there is no substitute for a sound offence and defense, but it does improve thier offense. Many NFL games are very tight in scoring, so an extra 3rd down conversion or FG opportunity can win a few more games, look at the playoffs last season. There is no downside to adding a weapon and pulling it out at key moments in the game. Let's comment again on this after a couple of games to see where this goes. I say this is this makes the O more dynamic and you say invest elsewhere...should be interesting regardless...

@Chris Rowell---Overpaid, over-pampered, over-exposed professional football players are not role models for our children. How many are brought up on charges of non-payment of child support? TOO MANY!!!

Motown Gentleman

This is, by all means, one of the worst decisions I have ever seen by any professional football team. You just get out of the debacle with wooing Peyton, sign Sanchez to a five year deal, and now this. Its schizophrenic! As well, Colorado has a huge fundamentalist Christian population (look up Colorado Springs...its the headquarters of many, many evangelical churches), so Tebow naturally had a huge swell of support. In the NYC metro area, yes...people are religious, however, we are also more religiously diverse and tend not to wear our religion on our sleeves. I predict Tebow will be begging for a trade by the first few weeks of the season, if not before the season even starts.

I think Tebow is a good player but that is not why the Jets sold their collective first-borns to get him. in typical Jets fashion, they're relying on a name, not on the talent behind the name, and in likely the same Jets fashion they're going to get burned for thinking small. They give up two draft picks, right? What happens when both of them become the next big thing in the NFL?
At least there are no lame Tebow puns in the press...yet.

Brendan, you're right about the draft picks. Tannenbaum has had awful drafts the last couple of years. So a 4th and 6th rd pick probably wouldn't have made any impact on the Jets. Chances are Denver will be able to make good use of the picks.

Tebow joining the Jets is a fantastic idea. He'll just get eaten up by the media, but maybe he can help the Jets by not being "gutless cowards". Cool Tammy. Yet we have 2 super bowls under Eli.. And how many under Sanchez, Pennington etc? Oh wait only one under Namath in '69.. Even he criticizes his old team. Tiki Barber criticized Coughlin and Manning a lot.. Eli has 2 rings, Coughlin has 3.. And the Jets? Didn't think so but good try. Every team has bad fans. Jets fans can hate all they want but in the end they suck and the Giants are better. The Jets are barely better than Buffalo who really suck and lost 4 super bowls. Sorry NY's team is the Giants.

@Andrew-NY can have the giants. NJ will gladly call the JETS "their team". Super Bowl champs or not they sell out every home game. By the way, one of my fondest JETS vs. giants memories--August 2010--Eli Manning running off the field for a BIG BLUE band-aid. :)

Tammy, its common knowledge that the Jets do not sell out every game. There are plenty of empty seats at the game. It figures the fondest memory of yours would be a pre season game, since the Jets haven't won a meaningful game in over 40 years.

@Patrick--Empty seats does not equal unsold seats. The JETS haven't won a meaningful game in 40 years? That's an interesting statement considering the JETS's 2010 season lasted far longer than the giant's season did. I'd say the game that got the JETS into the playoffs was just as meaningful as the one that sent the giants home. Doesn't really matter to me what you or anybody else thinks of the JETS--win or lose they are and always will be my favorite team. By the way, I didn't say the game where the JETS made Eli Manning bleed was my favorite game, I said watching Eli Manning running off the field bleeding was my fondest memory period. It is amusing however that giants fans insist pre-season games don't matter until the giants win one.
Patrick Franklin
9:19 pm on Friday, March 23, 2012
In this case empty seats do equal unsold tickets. I'm not talking about a few here or there, I'm talking about blocks of seats. In 2010 it was disturbing how many empty seats there were. This was all due to the PSL prices, I do admit the Giants had the same issue. If you had attended any games or been somewhat knowledgeable you would've known about this.
The playoff games which the Jets won were meaningless, no one is going to be talking about how the Jets lost 2 straight AFC championship games 10 years from now. A team is defined by how many championship they win, not by pre season games or a playoff win or two.
BTW, Jacobs made Eli bleed not the Jets. As usual you were wrong or maybe you don't even watch the games.
