I hope for his sake, and the children's sakes, that these allegations are not true. The sad fact is: if he's exonerated/innocent, his career has been ruined. However, if he's guilty, I really hope he gets the max sentence..as it seems this has been going on for a very long time.

Seems to me what she observed is exactly "in line" with the charges.

Golowko....does she really think she will witness a pediphile sexual abuse a child in front of everyone? Doesn't she think it's odd for a single man to be so involved with a community he didn't grow up in? Doesn't she think it's odd that he was told before he had tenure that he should not be affectionate to students BUT he kept on doing it? Why does a 30 year old man feel more comfortable with young children than adults? Doesn't she want to know why Fennes was reprimanded with no raise and then suspended?

He wasnt even nice to the boys. Dumping their desks and so on. Gimme a break. I know a teacher from another school that dumped a kids desk and was fired on the spot. EM yes woman teachers hold hands with their students. so what? "normal" male teachers KNOW NOT to do that. fennes was warned not to by parents and he KEPT doing it. do you get it? he was not only conditioning the parents and kids but his possible victims. he did much more than just hold hands with the girls. there are reports of other types of affection he was asking for from what i hear. this is a tiny town and parents are coming forward with information that both you and i have not heard. i would not be defending one hair on the jerk if i were you. ive seen posts deleted quickly once more information comes out.

It is a sad state of affairs for Montville: however, I am sure the arrests were not made without serious investigation and that there is ample facts supporting the allegations. The Morris County Prosecutors Office would not arrest this man without good cause, it would make no sense to do that, not to mention that it would open up a huge can of worms in the form of a law suit...No one wants to believe that a teacher could do such things, for such a long time and get away with it...but suffice it to say that there are many facts that the public are not privy to, so let us all be thankful that there are watchdogs out there who will take care of business.

The reason why people would be in denial is because no parent would ever want to believe that a man they liked and trusted with their child would turn out to be a pedophile. again the question...why did adams go on a medical leave only a few months after fennes lawyered up and left montville WITHOUT his tenure and why did the board of ed then hire a full time principal within days of the first victim coming forward to the police. if you read some of the last patch articles this december/january, it said they had an emergency meeting the morning around christmas eve. interesting to say the least. she better not be taking the fifth because she owes these kids and this town honestly in this mess.

Just making a comment regarding the journalistic approach of this article: It seems to imply that "parents" are stunned, but there is only one parent interviewed, one who obviously had way more interaction with Fennes due to the track team then a regular parent in the class. Maybe this one parent was the only one to contact the Patch regarding her feelings? I'm not involved at all (I went to elementary school in another district), but perhaps other parents who feel the opposite way should get in contact with the Patch and describe their views in a way that will perhaps legitimize them a bit more than simply posting comments.

I support Ariana's request for people to contact her with comments on record. One parent bravely came forward to state the facts as she saw them. Fennes brought good programs to this community. His reputation and future are now at stake and it is important that facts, not opinions, determine the outcome. In our legal system, we are innocent until proven guilty. There are three sides to every story - yours, mine, and the real side. I can only hope the truth will prevail for everyone involved.

How can anyone possibly believe the ex is setting him up? There are two separate girls from two different years who have come forward with allagations against fennes. Everyone always thought he was inapropiate with young girls. So I'm sure there will be more coming out. I know the ex and he would never do this. He just wanted fennes to stay away from his daughter, and he got that with a legal restraining order so that his daughter was only aloud around fennes at track. Plus no parent would have their children lie about something like this. I also know he's sick of reading comments like this, give that crap a rest and him a break.

Ariana, I consider the decision by Montville Patch to take this slant on the story; RECKLESS at best. Clearly, this was a cognizant decision based on how Patch can generate the maximum amount of comments and essentially more advertising and revenue. I think the ethical decision to write an article that contradicts and dismisses the statements of two very young girls that had to dig deep down and come forward is disgusting.
Both of my kids had fennes and the response after the arrest from my kids, my wife,my friends and the teachers at Mason was all the same ..."We are NOT surprised". Thank the Lord, this is mainly because they are all more savvy, more in tune with human behavior and they just have more street smarts than the woman you interviewed.

Most people realize that when a teacher has girls continually sit on his lap and hold hands, etc, this is inappropriate behavior (not illegal) and when parents and teachers (such as the woman interviewed) tell him to stop and he continues to do this, it makes his behavior even more inappropriate; hence his suspension. If you want to do real life story about this situation, go to the Board of Ed and ask them to lift the gag order on the teachers. Find a teacher that saw him every day for years and see if they are surprised.

Allegations... You have to understand in our society allegations have to be proven true. This is not to say the children are wrong , but still allegations. You see my experience is with a fellow worker who was accused of molestation. He insisted he was innocent and I did not believe a word he said. Turns out he was , but spent 18 months in jail awaiting trial. It never went to trial and he was forced to take a plea bargain to get out of jail. He was innocent because his accuser took back her accusation . Still the prosecuter refused to drop it because a child was involved. Forced him to plea down the charges for his freedom. That was the day I made a decision not to convict until all the evidence is in , and the trial is over. I like you wand convinced of his guilt based on his profile. It all fit and he was guilty. Well sorry as much as it doesn't look good to me about Fennes.... I just can't stop thinking of how wrong I was 20 years ago . If all ducks are in a row.. Then Fennes will pay.

And I do understand your view. And that is sad for your friend to do time for a crime he did not commit. But as you said that was one girl in that case. This is many girls. There are already a handful that are coming forward about this man. With very horrible stories. So I DO understand how some people can be wrongly accused. I understand both of you an I am getting a little less supportive of Fennes as more allegations come forth. You realize that not all saw or know what you claim to know. Hey numb , I read your response to the article. My opinion is its a journalist's job to give both sides of a story. As unpopular as this story was with you , it was from a person who may be a little closer to Fennes than you. That being staid I don't the lady is stupid or ignorant , she just sees things differently. If and when your feelings about Fennes I think ALL those who are hesitant to condem him will feel betrayed and as disgusted as you and disgusted. He was fired from his last job at Cedar Hiil Preb before Montville arrested him. He resigned from William Mason and left his tenure. There is more than one girl. Think about all that. Hey unclouded truth....You bet I have a ton of hatred for people who molest children. And the ex does not harrass his daughter....all he wanted was for fennes not to have access to her and he got it legally thru a court order. So don't talk bs about a man you obviously don't know. He's a great dad who was protecting his children.

The Fennes articles have generated hundreds of comments and not one person has expressed a comment saying the legal process should not play out. maybe your statement was just rhetorical, (I don't know)? The point that people are trying to make is that they are not surprised about these charges which contradicts the premise to the entire article.

and, montville does have a responsibility to tell the cedar hill school info BUT that is IF cedar hill phoned montville. from what i read in the paper, fennes was already doing a track program at the school so its possible that montville never got a phone call asking about him. someone should ask that question at the next board meeting.

I am the son of the ex husband and ex girlfriend of Fennes. I can't keep reading some of these ignorant comments any longer without saying something. "Seeking the unclouded truth"- You claim my mom said she just wants the truth to come out. She did say that. However, after the second girl came out, she now believes he's a pedophile and she can't believe she never saw the signs… Looks like you're "exceptionally reliable source" is not as up to date as "Had it's" source.. But I mean good try I guess. I see a lot of the supporters of Fennes say to let the professionals take care of it and don't make judgements until the facts are known. First off, it doesn't take professionals to come to the conclusion that this man is a creep and always has been after everything that has happened. Secondly, the facts are already known and I'd be happy to share some of them. Fennes has been inappropriate around my little sister, as well as many other children, for the past few years. I used to walk into my house and he would have my little sister on his lap as they were finishing up "Movie Night Tuesday." One time, I looked at my sister's phone and saw texts from him saying "I love you! Ur so cute." Is this a man me or my father wanted hanging around alone with my little sister? Absolutely not, and the inappropriate behavior continues. He held hands with my sister and had her in his car alone sometimes.

Whenever he was over, I would ask him to leave because I was not comfortable having him around, for obvious reasons. He would never leave when I asked him to, and would respond with comments such as "What are you gonna do? Call the cops on me? I'm not leaving unless your mother wants me to." As far as the fight between my dad and Fennes, I am the only witness of it and can state some facts about it. I chose to follow Fennes's car with my dad after he drove past my house, suspicious that my sister was in it. Fennes punched my dad first. I went over to break it up by grabbing Fennes and telling him not to touch my dad. He then bent my fingers back, breaking my hand and putting me out of football for 6 weeks, ruining my season. After having see his son get punched by an adult, my dad came to my defense, just as any father would do. Some other facts about Fennes… he was fired from his job in Somerset before any of these allegations took place, meaning he did something inappropriate to one of his students there as well. Both this and the fact that individual girls are now coming out clearly shows my dad is not behind putting Fennes in jail. Do you actually think he's paying the whole town for children to come out and lie? Yeah right, Fennes put himself in jail. For the few leftover, brainwashed, ignorant track parents who are still dumb enough to support Fennes and are in such a deep state of denial, open your eyes and accept the truth now.

Of course this is going to be hard to do, as you have wasted the last few years of your lives supporting a pedophile. But imagine how much stupider you're going to look (yes, believe it or not, it is indeed possible for you to look stupider) when he is in fact proven guilty. By reading the FACTS about Fennes stated above, it should become clear to you all exactly why my father has done everything he has. No parent should ever allow his or her child to be around a man like that, even if there's just one rumor about him being a pedophile (in this case, there weren't just rumors- there were true stories witnessed by both me and my dad). My father and I stuck with our instincts and fought for what we believed was right. I pray every day that I fought hard enough and that my little sister will not be the next girl to come out. Wow i can safely say after reading down this list of comments i was beginning to feel ashamed to be a part of the montville township community until i came across the eloquent words of The Son. 1. There appears to be strong and passionate supporters for both sides of this issue so facts get distorted. As it legally appears there are two accusations of sexual assault one from a woman who withheld evidence for five years thereby is responsible for child endangerment and another more serious charge which might have been avoided had this first woman gone to the proper authorities. Hmm.
2. People in this blog on both sides are making some pretty heavy allegations but you need evidence
3. Who are these track people that allow their children to be sexually assaulted. Who are these many many children in his classroom that have been assaulted?? Where are they all and why haven't they come forward yet? There are many blogs here indicating more kids are coming forward. Now would be the time
4. Finally who this family involved? Exhusband exwife the son?? What do they have to do with these sexual assaults? Are they part of it? The son put in a very passionate blog. How old is he to make these statements. Why have his parents put him in the middle of this. Why was he and his sister exposed to fighting at all?? These parents should be ashamed of themselves. It appears they were used in a nasty divorced which somehow ties into these sexual assaults made on two other children. Very confusing.

Wayne. It takes years for children to come forward. It takes a ton of guts on the parents part to put their child thru a court hearing that is so personal. So they may or may not come forward. Read the son's post and that sums it all up. And there seems to be very little support for fennes anymore, so I don't see why you say strong support for both sides. And by parents, I assume you mean mother because the son makes no comment about the father doing anything wrong. As for them putting their kids in the middle of a nasty divorce, you are wrong here too. Their divorce was very smooth for the most part, I know this because I am friends with the father. To "The Son", I hope you and your dad are taking your sister to counseling. There are excellent therapists out there that can help her determine the difference between good touch vs. bad touch. I hope for her sake, she never was molested, but a good therapist will help her understand that none of this is her fault. I also want to commend you for the maturity conveyed in your post. I want to add that some victims never come forward. Some victims come forward when they are old enough to understand what happened to them was wrong and they find support. No one should ever judge a victim on the amount of time between the sexual assault and pressing charges. As for the adult who knew....we don't know who that is yet. This is a real warning to single moms...if your kids don't like your boyfriend...listen to them and drop him. You live for your kids not for a guy that just happens to fancy you. Look what happened in this situation...these poor kids had to be around this child molester even when they didn't want too.

Peter, no one, except for jason himself can know whether your statement is true or false. Proclaiming his innocence is incomprehensible unless you have been with the man 24/7 since 2000. You are incredibly naive to believe with any certainty what you posted. The facts may never be known...but again, even if he is acquitted, that by no means proves he is innocent. I'm not saying he's guilty..but you need to be realistic. It is possible..if not probable...

Peter, your brother being his roommate/best friend proves nothing. I like to remind people of Ted Bundy...until they found out the horrific things he did..no one would have believed it because he was an awesome , upstanding citizen as far as anyone knew.
