The high school Key Club's 31st Annual Volleyball Marathon is set to take over the gyms at Montville Township High School on Friday, Feb. 10.
The five-hour event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Key Club, a service organization. Last year's event drew 58 teams.
This year's event will feature a match pitting town hall versus the school district.
The Township Committee challenged the Board of Education to a volleyball game at the annual Key Club fundraiser. The school board accepted. Superintendent Dr. Paul Fried said at the last school board meeting he is prepared to play.
Key Club President Rachel Sholder said all proceeds will go to the district's ELIMINATE project. The ELIMINATE project, a combined effort of Kiwanis and UNICEF, aims to eradicate maternal and natal tetanus by 2015.
The disease kills nearly 60,000 babies and a significant number of women each year, Sholder said in an announcement about the event. The disease can be prevented with three inexpensive vaccinations per person, she said.
Admission is $6 for spectators, with snacks and drinks provided.
