Montville Power Outages: Is Your Street On This List?

JCP&L provides township with list of areas still affected by Tropical Storm Sandy.

Only about 25 percent of Montville Township remained without power Wednesday, according to Mayor Tim Braden. But despite JCP&L linemen continuing to work in the township, many residents who are still in the dark feel alone.

Some residents told Montville Patch that they did not fear losing power during Wednesday's storm because they still had not seen it restored since Tropical Storm Sandy made landfall Oct. 29.

"Not afraid to lose power since we haven't gotten it back yet. Day 9, and now the [JCP&L] website days [sic] Sunday! Are u kidding me," Megan Ob said on the Montville Patch Facebook page.

Another reader, Sharon Hollfelder, said she hoped to have a few hours with power to heat up her home before the storm.

"This is way too long to go without power. I never see any power trucks around either!" she said.

On Tuesday, Braden said the outage restoration numbers from JCP&L have been "grossly inaccurate." But Ron Morano, a spokesman for the company, said, "The information that we provide is based on estimates."

Up until about 8 p.m. Tuesday, the William Mason School remained without power as well. But Braden said when power was restored, district employees were able to get the building up and running for school to resume Wednesday after more than a week of closings.

JCP&L provided an updated list of outages throughout Montville that was posted on the township website Wednesday. The list includes only the homes JCP&L are aware remain without power and township officials encourage residents who are not on the list but do not have power to call JCP&L and inform them of the outage. JCP&L's outage center can be reached at (888) 544-4877.

See the JCP&L list of outages in Montville here.

From the looks of it it is apparent that NO ONE is doing anything about this for our town. There are many news articles in NJ based papers/sites that have quotes from Major's all throughout Morris county saying that thay are contacting the Govennot and who ever else they can to get ATTENTION to our town but if you look you will find NO reference to Montville at all. As we all continue to pay higher taxes, permits, less services, less teachers, firemen, etc, a TOTAL JOKE for whoever believes in politics and that these people care a crap about anything but themselves.......

Konner Avenue, Pine Brook, north of Cheryl Road does not have power. It appears that none of the streets in the Pine Brook section of Montville is on the JCPL supplied Outage List and there are still plenty of outages including Flanders Drive and Cheryl Road. On Tuesday & Wednesday, JCPL recording said that power would be restored by 11:59pm on Wednesday, 11/7. Now they have moved that back four days to 11:59pm on Sunday 11/11. It is time for our town leaders to step up and get JCPL to address these issues immediately.

Cheryl Rd, Brittany Rd, Demoray, and Flanders residents NEED TO READ THIS...
If you live on one of the streets mentioned and may have seen power for a short time on Thursday 11/1, like we did, you are one of the 70 homes that JCP&L told me are on the circuit that now has an "Underground Cable Fault". How do I know? I've lived on Brittany for 21 years and have seen and heard the "circuit breaker" on the pole between 47 and 49 Brittany Rd fail. I also spent about 30 minutes on the phone w JCP&L yesterday and they confirmed the Underground Cable Fault. Don't believe me? Stop by the pole between 47 and 49 Brittany and check out the Yellow Tag on the pole with "FAULT" written in black marker. If you think we will get Brittany Rd dug up before everyone else gets wires hung, think again. Time to start calling anyone and everyone about "OUR" JCP&L problem.

My power was restored earlier today. My street is listed on this list. There are SO MANY streets still without power that are NOT LISTED that it is so sad. I know so many people that have called daily time and time again and their street is still not on this list. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?????? This company is beyond awful.

I feel for each and everyone of you. No, others have it worse, but I completely understand your misery having just left it. Very unsettling. Very upsetting.

Even more so is that no one seems to be able to be our advocate. Is any town leader watching this? If so, could you let us know that you are and what you are doing about it?????

Redding Place in Towaco, still dark. Well, except for the bright white snow. *sigh*. Lincoln Park's mayor issued an open letter to the governor and they are now being assessed and serviced. I don't begrudge them one bit and hope they're restored quickly! But it certainly reveals that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I agree with fellow residents: although a healthy percentage of our town has been restored, the rest of us have been ignored, and it's time to start squeaking.

I called them, spoke to a very nice woman. She pretty much said dont trust the list, it basically means nothing. They release these to give us a little assurance (which clearly backfired), and they are aware of all the outages in town. They hope to restore everything by Sunday night. However, they do have to prioritize, and this snow storm really isn't helping them work.

How about the entire neighborhood of Douglas Drive, Mary Drive, Robert Road, Audrey, Weiss, Woodshire? I'm estimating appx. 400 residents or more. Verizon replaced the poles days ago and First Energy has yet to send any utlity employees. The feed comes from Pinebrook Road and up Foremost. There is power on both sides of the downed wires on Pinebrook Road so the "substation" excuse falls way short. Any assistance from Mayor Braden would be hugely appreciated since he seems to have the ony telephone number to JCP&L that gets results....

There is still no power on Oxford Drive or Bromley Court. I called JCP&L because those streets were on the list and they told me that the Township's website was inaccurate and unreliable, that they would not provide a list of street names because their system is not that sophisticated.

Further, I spoke with 3 different representatives, all of whom provided me different information. One told me that the Nor'easter was not affecting the crews and that the majority of my town would still be restored by 11/7. Another told me 0 houses would be restored in Montville on the 7th and that the estimated restoration date for the whole town is the 8th but she "has to tell me" the 11thby midnight.

One told me 25% of Montville was without power. One told me 18%. The misinformation and misleading information makes this frustrating situation even worse.

It's been 11 days for my house with no power, heat, fireplace, or generator....

While we are grateful that there are many crews here from out of State, their omnipresence all afternoon (11/7) @ the Boonton Walmart parking lot leaves one to wonder if the power will ever be restored. Once again, JCP&L has no game plan to get these guys working. Get the men that are babysitting dead lines on the street trained to be team leaders for JC, and get the show up & running. Mayor, ask JR how to squeeze JCP&L, let them know what you expect! Boonton neighborhood had downed pole/tree with only 12 houses w/o power. No problem, fixed on 11/7 in the a.m., meanwhile most of Northern Montville is w/o juice. Do we need to have a State Senator move to our town to get this job done?

I think jcpl has moved on to other areas and thinks we are done or that they did enough in our neighborhood. I reported the outage at least 3 times and I know many others have even more. Yesterday I spoke to jcpl and they said they don't make a list of streets bc their system can't to that. They also said that they have no idea about time for restoration except that it should be by Sunday. Just great.

Perhaps we would have gotten our power back by now if the state didn't turn away the out of state non-union workers who came to help out. I don't know what our standards are for accepting help but in a situation like this, we could have bent the rules and allowed out of state non-union workers to do the repairs that they are licensed to do.

We have not had any communication from JCP&L since we lost power 11 days ago. If my company treated our customers like this, we would be out of business. I have been a JCP&L customer for well 25 years and feel as though I have been abandoned by them. My street (Demoray Ct.) is not on the list despite the daily calls I have made into the 800 #. Yes - the frustration level is really starting to get to me. First the lights go out, OK it's a massive storm - that's expected. Second, we hear that non-union workers are not welcome at JCP&L. Now it turns out that Towaco and Valhalla, are the equivalent of JCP&L no go zones, and finally it turns out that the number of Montville residents without power went up while Lincoln Park and Towaco seem to have dropped by 50%. The Wayne petition to disenfranchise JCP&L seems like a very good one at this stage. This is the third time in 2 years that we have been out for a week or more. Totally unacceptable!

Douglas Drive wasn't on the infamous JCP&L list either. It could be that this is the work product of someone with really poor EXCEL skills. On the other hand it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you under report the total number of outages (aka missing most of Towaco in Montville Twp) then the percent of customers whose power has been restored looks more favorable than it really is. You have to wonder why the township officials allowed this list to be posted on the township website knowing that sections of the township were missing.

My Dad lives on SALTER DRIVE (IN BACK OF MONTVILLE H.S.), I Have been checking on him a few times a week. The Street is SALTER DRIVE. It is OFF PASSAIC VALLEY ROAD, Montville. When I Drove there again on Friday, November 9th, He STILL had no power. Also Gaines Road, Foremost mountain Road, Salter Drive, ALL are off Passaic Valley Road, Which is Off Changebridge Road, Montville. I Feel Very Badly for Everyone there. And You Would NEVER imagine That something like this would be happening in Montville, and for So long!!!
And Yes, SALTER DRIVE HAS NO POWER, and WAS NEVER MENTIONED on Any LIST I SAW..... Good Luck to Everyone in Montville!!!!!
