Kostka Wins Township Committee Seat
Committeeman to serve second term in Montville.
Republican Montville Township Committeeman Don Kostka will serve another term after winning a race for re-election Tuesday.
Incumbent Kostka was challenged by Democrat Mike O'Brien, who garnered 3,184 votes in the election. But Kostka pulled ahead with 5,184 votes.
Kostka was unavailable for comment Tuesday night.
Before the primary election, Kostka, a self-employed Certified Public Accountant, said this would likely be his last term. Since being elected, he said he has focused on maintaining fiscal responsibility for the township. His challenger, O'Brien, is a former high school history teacher. O'Brien had promised to bring transparency to local government, if elected.
O'Brien wished Kostka luck Tuesday.
"I'm confident he'll do the best he can and I just wish him the best," he said.
In addition to serving on the township committee, Kostka has been a Montville Township Public Library Board of Trustees member since 2008.
Kostka is a lifelong Montville resident. He and his wife, Darlene, have raised three kids in Montville: Jason, Nicole and Christine.
