Disbarment Possible for Ex-Montville Judge
State judicial committee hearings continue as lawyers will decide whether Seth Davenport violated ethics code.
Former Montville Municipal Judge Seth Davenport told a state judicial committee that he may have carelessly signed a certification stating he did not represent a former mayor 10 years ago in legal matters, a violation of New Jersey Court rules, although court documents confirm he did.
According to nj.com, Davenport appeared before the New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct Wednesday and said that he had represented former mayor John Rosellini prior to becoming a judge, but did not bill him after that time. When Rosellini became involved in a group that sought to develop a child care center on Changebridge Road and Davenport represented the group, nj.com reported that Davenport said that in his mind, he did not consider that he had also represented Rosellini when signing the certification that said he did not.
The committee will continue hearings in the next several weeks and ultimately decide whether Davenport should be disbarred.
