Cops: Juvenile's Laser Temporarily Blinds Officer

A green laser beam went into the left eye of Patrolman Jason Blustein as he drove to an alarm.

A Montville Police officer who was driving to a burglar alarm was temporarily blinded by a green laser beam that police say was directed at him by a juvenile with a laser pointer, authorities said.

Charges of aggravated assault and interfering with transportation were pending against the juvenile, according to police.

The juvenile was upset and said he didn't mean it, according to police.

The officer, Patrolman Jason Blustein, has been out since the incident occurred on Feb. 8 for evaluation, Capt. Edward Rosellini said.

Blustein was responding to an alarm on Stony Brook Road around 8:30 p.m. when the laser beam went in his eye, police said. He briefly lost vision in his left eye, according to police.

After responding to the burglar alarm, which turned out to be a false alarm, he returned to the home where he believed the laser beam originated from a second-floor window. He spoke with a woman in the home, who called her son downstairs, police said.

Police took the laser pointer, which was wrapped in black electrical tape, as evidence.
