Class of 2012 Beats Heat at Graduation
Warm summer weather did not stop smiles and cheers during commencement ceremony Thursday.
Half a ton of ice and hundreds of water bottles were donated by community organizations and people for Thursday night's Montville Township High School Class of 2012 commencement ceremony. But the sweltering temperature had no bearing on a night of reflection of student accomplishments, excitement for the future and pride over time well-spent in the Montville Township Public Schools district.
Three hundred and fifty one students graduated from the high school Thursday, according to Board of Education President Dr. Karen Cortellino's speech, with those students completing a total of more than 16,000 hours in a classroom, high school Principal Doug Sanford said.
Check out where the seniors will be headed in the fall and photos of the classmates here.
Also, feel free to upload your own graduation photos to our gallery!

Does anyone plan to cover the content of Karen Cortellino's speech? It was hard to hear from where we were, but it did not seem appropriate for a graduation. I would like to read what she said as a rebuttal to Christie's efforts to end tenure and begin job security measures and promotions based on performance instead of longevity

Wonderful job with the graduation of the high school class of 2012! Thank you to all who contributed to such a memorable event.
Karen Cortellino's speech detracted from the event. This was to be a celebration of our children and their hard work, not a political platform. Shame on you Karen Cortellino

We survived the heat but could not escape BD of ed president cortinello's blantant attempt to ruin the ceremony. Shame on her! She did not deserve to hand the diplomas to the graduates!

The volunteers of the Montville Twp. First Aid Squad also had two ambulances on standby at the graduation, and treated several patients for heat-related illnesses.
