Kiwanis Club of Montville Celebrates 33rd Aniversary

June 10 marked the 33rd anniversary of the formation of the Kiwanis Club of Montville.

In 1978, 15 community service oriented residents started the club and several of those charter members are still active. Today, the club has over 60 men and women with diverse backgrounds and experience, but all are united in an interest to help the children and families in need in Montville Township.

Montville Kiwanis has accomplished many noteworthy projects and has conducted many activities during its history including the opening of the Montville Kiwanis Food Pantry in early 2010 at the Montville United Methodist Church, which has involved many organizations and is currently serving over 50 families after just one year in operation.

The Montville Community Park Playground, the Municipal Ballpark Playground and Camp Dawson Improvements also were all Kiwanis projects.

Ongoing activities include, Thanksgiving food distribution, a holiday party for special needs children, an annual fishing derby, holiday caroling at nursing homes, sponsorship of the Montville High School Key Club and many more.

"Kiwanis involvement is an excellent way to give back to your community as your schedule permits," Kiwanis President Ron Rauschart said. "We invite community members who want to do good things for our community, and have a good time doing them, to join us."
